Feminine and masculine come together to create a sensual space.
This design theme is for those that are unafraid to push the boundaries, love art, and embrace their edgier sides. With this design I am blending sweet feminine curves and hues with stronger shapes and themes to create a space with a strong sense of sensuality. This is about taking contrasts and seamlessly creating one unified space. Inspiration was taken from different rooms with classic architecture and strong design.
Two opposing sofas in completely different styles set the tone for the room. One distressed leather traditional and the other is a soft modern piece. The scale and silhouettes of the two sofas compliment each other which is why this works. I have paired it with a clean modern cocktail table. The seating area is flanked by two art deco styled chairs upholstered in a rich mustard velvet. Underfoot is a blush colored area rug with a pattern that blurs the line between traditional and modern. An assortment of interesting side tables and lamps round out the furnishings and keep the space fun and eclectic. I have chosen to accessorize the sofas with a fun collection of more graphic pillows to play up the art-fullness of the space.
For the walls, I have chosen a pale shade of blue-gray with a warm light gray trim color. The largest piece of art is nearly the same color as the wall to create a piece that is more subtle but also tremendously interesting. The other art piece helps to unify the rest of the colors and shapes of the room. I have also chosen to add a wallpaper that is in the same colors and shades as the trim to add visual interest and unity. In this way the walls become as interesting as the furnishings and everything moves in a sensual and romantic dance.
