Gray walls - white trim. If there is any paint color combo that will define the twenty-teens it will surely be this classic color combo. As we are moving into the 2020s we are seeing trends that go warmer and more comforting.
This year obviously started off pretty rough with Covid-19 and our priorities have changes. We are spending more time at home and less time traveling, eating out and being out. With this in mind home has became even more important to us. People are seeking for home to be a warm and comfortable safe space.
The all white Modern Farmhouse theme has also became extremely popular as a counterbalance to the cold grays and white that predominantly defined the middle of the twenty-teens. The farmhouse theme does bring that bright, warm, organic back to the "salt of the earth feeling" that so many of us are craving. However, like any other trend - the farmhouse theme does not work for every home. When it is forced onto a home it sometimes just doesn't work. There is also a the reality that as "farmhouse" gets used more and more it will become dated like so many other trendy designs.
A lot of home built in the 1990s-2010s were built more around large and open spaces without a lot of interest taken to the architectural interest of these homes. Now especially these homes can feel a bit to open and cold. Especially if they have been painted in the classic gray with white color scheme. Let's explore some options for warming up these spaces and injecting more personality into them.
This kitchen is incredible. I love an all white kitchen with the classic gray island - but this one is just so much more interesting. The cream and the black with the gray and white of the marble, the white walls and the brass accents - it's a perfect marriage.
Gray is a classic, and paired with white it is clean modern look. I don't think we need to be scared of gray in any way. I just think the time has come to warm it up a bit, and make it a bit more interesting. More designer - less developer...
Gray but warmer... I love how these two shades of gray pair well with the more natural tones in the space and still feel very warm. Gray comes in so many different tones and it is very important to get the right balance to achieve a warm space.
Painting the trim the same color as the walls is an interesting way to change up the classic gray and white color scheme. It can create a more cohesive space with a less busy look. Especially if going darker with the walls - sometimes the gray and white look is just too contrasting.
Change it up just a bit - paint the trim a subtle warm shade of gray and go white on the walls.
If you are looking for interesting grays that have warmth and personality - Farrow and Balls is the go to in my opinion. They have some many great grays and whites that are just great!
Let's get creative!
