Zellige Tile - Texture, Color, Pattern

The world of Zellige tile is an endless playground of color, texture, shape, and size. Zellige tile are valued for their handmade "imperfect" look. These tiles are traditionally made in Morocco and are famously used to elaborately decorate many buildings in colorful patterns. Today Zellige tiles are used around the world to bring that handmade look into the home.

Here are my top 5 favorite Zellige tiles at the moment.

Glazed Mosaic Zellige Tile

Bedrosians Tile & Stone

Green Zellige Tile

This tile comes in many different colors and several different shapes/sizes. I particularly like this green in the triangle shape mosaic. It looks stunning with brass hardware in a shower. The irregularities in shape, edge and color are what make this handmade Moroccan tile truly stunning.

Patterned Zellige Tile

Otto Tile & Design

Modern pattern meets ancient clay and craftsmanship with this beautiful tile from Otto Tiles and Design out of London. I love the juxtaposition of these two qualities in this single tile. A bold choice to use on a kitchen or bathroom backsplash. Love it paired with a colored sink.

Specialty Zellige Tile

Riad Tile

This unglazed tile is truly exceptional with it's raw brick-like handmade quality. Riad makes a lot of beautiful tiles but I feel like this is one of their more exceptional pieces, though admittedly limited in where it can be used. This is the type of tile that you plan for.

Circle Shaped Zellige Tile

Cement Tile USA

White Zellige Tile Round

Simplicity that outdoes the sum. I love the simple beauty of this stunning white tile from Cement Tile USA. It creates the perfect interesting pattern without overpowering anything else. Subtle stunning handmade beauty perfect for a bathroom floor.

Subway Zellige Tile

Riad Tile

This tile is one of my favorites. I love the rich warm honey glazing. It works as a bold natural and pairs beautifully with black hardware in a kitchen or bath. I currently have this being installed with a matte black slate in a kitchen and can't wait to see the finished project.

Happy tiling!
